A gender stereotype is a perception about the traits or qualities that men and women should or should not have, or about the roles that men and women should or should not play. When it restricts a woman's or man's ability to grow personally, pursue a career, and/or make decisions about their lives, a gender stereotype is damaging. Even farther, certain groups of women, such as those from minority or indigenous groups, those with disabilities, those from lower caste groups or with lower economic status, and migrant women; are disproportionately negatively impacted by gender stereotypes that are compounded and intersect with other stereotypes.
