Violence
Violence is the use of physical force with the aim to harm, destroy, or kill someone or something.
Violence can occur in three ways:
- Physical Violence
- Sexual Violence
- Emotional Violence
Physical Violence: It happens when someone attempts to control another person's behavior by using a body part or an item.
Sexual Violence: Is any violent attempt or act to achieve a sexual act, regardless of the perpetrator's relationship to the victim. In addition to having a significant short-term and long-term negative impact on physical and mental health; sexual violence also increases the chance of HIV infection, suicide, and difficulties with sexual and reproductive health. Sexual assault can happen to anyone at any age, and it can be committed by intimate partners as well as parents, caregivers, friends, and strangers.
Sexual violence was seen historically as a phenomenon that only affected women and was seen as natural in both times of peace and conflict. This resulted in the disregard of any clues as to the nature, scope, and severity of such violence.
Emotional Violence: Controlling and manipulating others emotionally is referred to as emotional abuse. It involve verbal abuse, rejection and gas-lightening.
Verbal Abuse: means cursing, yelling, or other abusive language directed at you.
Rejection: this is the type of emotional abuse that people reject your ideas, beliefs, and thoughts on a constant basis.
Gas-Lightening: is a type of emotional abuse that makes the victim doubt their own emotions and instincts, which gives the abusive partner a lot of control. This is general known that abuse centers on control and power.
